Chapter 160 Urging Her to Divorce
The dinner party ended in turmoil. Seething with rage, William stormed home. As soon as he stepped into the living room, he swept the glass cups off the table, sending them shattering across the floor.
Vera flinched at the violent outburst. She took a step forward, trying to intervene and calm him down.
But before she could say anything, he backhanded her across the face, the force of the blow sending her crashing to the ground.
"Mom!" Sierra rushed to her side, helping Vera up.
"I'm fine," Vera insisted, offering a shaky smile despite the redness in her eyes. The blow had already caused half of her face to swell.
Sierra's fury burned through her as she glared at William. "If you ever touch my mom again, I will call the police."
"Go ahead, let's see if the police have the guts to arrest me," William snapped, his face burning with rage. "Was today's whole mess part of your plan?"
She let out a bitter laugh. "What plan? If I could manipulate Uncle Theo into doing my bidding, I wouldn't be stuck dealing with you."
His eyes narrowed. He knew she didn't have that kind of power over Theo, but something didn't add up. Why had Theo intervened in her marriage to Benson?
Suspicion flickered in his gaze as he demanded, "Since when have you been close to Theo? Why is he helping you?"
For a split second, uncertainty flashed in Sierra's eyes, but she quickly masked it with indifference. "Grandpa Edward asked Uncle Theo to look after me," she replied coolly.
"And why have you never mentioned this before?"
"Why should I?" Sierra sneered, her voice thick with sarcasm.
William's expression darkened, his anger simmering beneath the surface. He hadn't expected her to have this kind of connection with Theo.noveldrama
Despite his youth, Theo was not a man William could afford to offend.
"When Mr. Gray Senior calms down, you'll go to him and say you're willing to reconcile with Benson," he commanded in a low, firm voice.
"I won't."
Sierra's defiance was unwavering.
"If you don't, I'II—"
"You'll what? Hit my mother again?" Sierra snapped, her eyes cold and unyielding. "She's your wife—a person, not someone you can abuse and degrade as you please."
Vera lowered her head, swallowing her pain in silence.
William scoffed, shooting her a look of contempt. "A worthless person doesn't deserve to stand by my side."
His cruelty and selfishness pierced Sierra's heart like a blade, and she clenched her fists tightly.
"This is your burden to bear, Sierra," he said coldly. "From the moment you were born, you brought misfortune to my family. Your very existence dragged us down. You owe us, and you will repay that debt.
"I'll spare your mother, but only if you obey me. If you refuse to marry Benson, then you'll marry someone else who can benefit the Shaw family The choice is yours-Benson or another man. Think it ove carefully."
With those callous words, William sneered and strode into his study. Sierra stood rooted to the spot, trembling with rage.
"Cee... I'm so sorry." Vera's voice trembled, guilt and sorrow welling in her eyes. "Because of me, you're the one suffering."
"Mom, divorce William. I'll take care of you," Sierra said firmly, gripping Vera's hand.
Vera hesitated, uncertainty flickering in her eyes. The mere thought of William's threats sent a shiver of fear through her, and she slowly shook her head.
"Mom, I know you're afraid of reliving the hardships of the past, but you won't have to. I have the means to give you a good life. I won't let you suffer," Sierra reassured her.
Still, Vera shook her head. "Cee... your father won't let me go that easily."
At first, Sierra was puzzled. But as the meaning behind Vera's words sank in, a chill spread through her veins.
What do you think?
