Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 1090

When he was a kid, he'd been playing hide-and-seek with his mom, and somehow ended up napping inside the rock garden. By the time he woke up, peeking out through a crack, the courtyard outside was a nightmare-bodies scattered everywhere, burning in wild, hungry flames. When the fire finally died, all that was left were piles of charred remains.

Chloe's mind worked through the mystery, bit by bit, everything starting to make sense. "Maybe it wasn't the other three families who wanted to steal the treasure. Maybe it was your family, the Grevenbergs. Once you got the treasure map, you never planned to share. So you staged a massacre, made it look like the whole Grevenberg family—and the map―vanished off the face of the earth.”

She pressed on, voice steady, "The thirty-eight people who died? They were decoys, picked out by your family. Grant, you said the old villa on Rooster Hill belonged to the Grevenbergs. Ever wonder why there was a water dungeon under the house? I bet your family locked up those stand-ins, just waiting for the day they'd need scapegoats."

"And there's more. That water dungeon has a hidden tunnel. It only opens when the water pressure is just right. I doubt you ever found it. But my mentor, Connor, and I—we escaped through that tunnel. Do you know where it comes out?" Chloe's eyes met his. "There's an abandoned well at the base of Zen Heart Temple. That's the exit."

Images flashed through Chloe's mind, everything falling into place. "Isn't it obvious? The Grevenbergs faked their own deaths, used decoys, pulled off an elaborate scam to trick the world."

"And those so-called assassins who came to wipe out the Grevenbergs? I bet your family hired them, just to pin the blame on the other three families. As for why those bodies were already dead before the assassins even showed up my guess is, the decoys tried to fight back. So your own family killed them, burned the bodies, and left everyone chasing the wrong story."

Of course, these were just Chloe's theories. She couldn't be sure. But right now, she needed to shift suspicion away from the four families and her mentor. The real truth-who hired the killers, what really happened that night-maybe no one would ever know.noveldrama

"No way," Killian said, shaking his head. He just couldn't believe it.

Chloe didn't stop. "And as for why you were teft behind? Maybe they just couldn't find you in time when the plan started. They weren't going to risk everything for one kid You were abandoned, plain and simple."

Her words were cold but honest. "Mr. Grevenberg, the family you've spent your whole life missing, the ones

ones who really left you behind."

"Your life... it's just sad. Like some kind of cruel joke."

"And the Grevenbergs? Obsessed with money, blinded by greed. In the end, that's

what destroyed them. Every single one of them died here."

Chloe knew she might never know what truly happened all those years ago. The Grevenbergs hadn't even found all the keys, yet they still managed to open the vault. But why, once it was open, did they get

trapped and die inside?

Maybe there was some other secret way to open the vault. Whatever happened, it

cost them everything. No one would ever really know the truth.
