"Maybe we should start seriously thinking about this in a couple of years?" Caroline suggested after weighing everything.

Alistair's eyes lit up. "You really want to have a baby with me?"

Caroline noticed his excitement and felt a pang of guilt. "I'm sorry. I've been so focused on Eloise's feelings that I never really considered what you wanted." Alistair gently pinched her cheek. "You're reading way too much into this! I'm just thrilled about the new baby. Eloise gets her wish for a little brother or sister, and our perfect little family gets even bigger. What's not to be happy about?"

Alistair's explanation cleared Caroline's mind completely, washing away all her doubts.
