Married at First Sight

Chapter 4490

Serenity said with a grin, "Are you serious? Those are your children too. Don't you love them? Every day when you come home from work, you ask about Belle before you ask about me. I should be the jealous one here."

"Don't get too jealous," Zachary laughed. "It'll make your teeth soft and ruin your appetite. I can't help it-I just get jealous of the kids. They're always stealing your attention. Anytime we want a moment alone, those two little ones squeeze in between us and demand your time. Even at night, when I want to get close to you, I have to be on high alert for them barging in."

He used to worry about just one kid. Now it was two. Even though the baby had grown up a bit, they had Belle now, and she still slept in their bed. Once she was older, they'd move her into her own room.

Zachary loved his kids, but when they interrupted his alone time with Serenity, he couldn't help but feel a little bitter-like he'd created his own little love rivals. Serenity chuckled. "I remember someone once said Belle was their world, their everything. And now look at you, acting like she's in the way. If Belle finds out you're complaining about her, she might ignore you for a whole month. You're too greedy."

Zachary quickly surrendered. "Wife, I'm just venting. I don't actually dislike Belle. She's our only daughter-of course she's our darling. Since we had her, I've stopped being jealous of Ben. I mean, I, Zachary York, finally have a daughter! The York family's no longer a boysonly club, thanks to Belle. Avan's in elementary school now-she's beautiful, smart, and mature."

Serenity had given birth to Belle when Avan and Enzo were one. Belle was now six, and Avan and Enzo were seven and already in school. Both kids were doing well academically and had picked up several hobbies.

Avan was especially composed. She wasn't the oldest, but among all the kids in the Johnson family, she had the presence of an eldest sister. Everyone spoiled her and listened to her.

Jane had privately told Serenity that Avan was the most likely heir to FC & Co. in the future.

But Jane only had one daughter, and she didn't want her to take over the business.

Serenity could only reassure her-Avan was still young. There was still time. Boys matured later. Maybe Enzo and the others would grow into solid leaders. Besides, it was natural for the boys to take on the heavier responsibilities.

They would be expected to inherit the family legacy.

Now that Serenity had a daughter, and unless something unexpected happened, Belle would be the only girl of her generation in the York family. Among her cousins, she'd be the eighth in line.noveldrama

And every single one of her brothers doted on her. Whatever she wanted, she got.

In the future, more cousins would come along, and they would probably spoil her just as much.

But Serenity had never considered grooming Belle to take over the family business.

The York family didn't want that either-not because they believed boys were better or that Belle wouldn't be capable—but because they loved her too much. They wanted her to live carefree, to grow up with freedom and happiness. She could do whatever made her happy, without having to shoulder the weight of a legacy.

Maverick, as the eldest son and grandson, along with a few other cousins, would eventually step up and take responsibility for the family business.
