Chapter 464
Before her lay a man with his muscular chest exposed, their limbs tangled together as he hugged her tightly, like a giant teddy bear. After giving birth to Mateo, she often felt weaker, her body perpetually chilly. Meanwhile, Everett, always full of life, was like a human heater. No wonder she was overheating in her dreams. But that wasn't the main issue right now. The pressing question was how Everett, who had been missing for over two weeks, ended up here. Why was he in her bed, wrapped around her so intimately?
Almost on reflex, Selena lashed out with a kick, landing it right on his stomach, sending him tumbling off the bed while he was still half-asleep. Everett let out a groan, his eyes snapping open, usually so mysterious, now clouded with sleep. Selena's voice, sharp with annoyance, cut through the haze. "Everett, what are you doing here?"
Slowly, Everett blinked and focused on Selena, who was still in the bed. Sunlight streamed through the window, highlighting her lovely face. Even in her anger, she captivated him.
Why was he here? He couldn't really recall. He had a vague memory of leaving his apartment and being picked up by someone sent by Jaime. Exhausted, he wanted a place to properly rest. He mentioned a location, and here he was. Maybe it was just an old habit; whenever he drank too much, he found himself wanting her to take care of him, and somehow, he always ended up back here. Or maybe, he just missed her.
But he couldn't admit any of this to Selena. He didn't want her scorn or laughter. To him, Selena was still his wife, and there was nothing wrong with them sharing a bed.
Everett got up, his dark eyes fixed on her, and shot back, "This is my house. Why can't I come back?"
One more kick, and she'd have jeopardized her future happiness!
Selena forced a smile, correcting him, "Mr. Everett, we're divorced, and you've moved out! Since you asked me to stay at Moon Bay, this place is temporarily mine, not somewhere you can just waltz into!"
"Of course, this is your property, and if you decide to live here again, I won't object, but I'll be moving out!"
With that, she turned away, pulling her nightgown tighter around herself, and headed for the door. She couldn't bear another moment in the same room as him.
Everett's handsome face fell, every word she spoke severing their connection. The frustration that had been simmering for weeks flared up.
He swiftly moved to her, catching
her wrist before she could leave, and pressed her against the cabinet. His voice was low and gravelly, "Selena, we're still in the cooling-off period, technically still married. You're still my Mrs. Bennett!"
"And even if we do divorce, you're still the mother of my child. The agreement allows me to see the child anytime, and you agreed to it. What now? Trying to cut ties before it's even over?"
Selena struggled but couldn't breaknovelbin
free, gritting her teeth in anger. She glared up at him, slicing through his facade, "The child isn't even born yet, how do you plan to 'see' them? Mr. Everett, using such a flimsy excuse is downright laughable!"
Everett didn't look embarrassed in the slightest. Instead, his dark eyes deepened, and he smirked. His voice dropped even lower, "Why can't I?"
As he spoke, he pinned her hands
above her head with one hand and
boldly ran his other hand over her stomach His large, warm palm easily penetrated the thin silk of her nightgown. His touch grew border, sending shivers through her, her body trembling slightly.
"Everett!" Selena's eyes blazed with fury, "Let go of me!"
He wasn't here to see the child; he was here to mess with her!
