Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 689

Everett made his way back to his hospital room, where the nurse hooked him up to an IV. He leaned back against the bed, closing his eyes to grab some rest.

Out of nowhere, his heart started pounding like crazy, and he couldn't quite figure out why. Maybe his condition was getting worse, he thought with a touch of irony.

But he couldn't afford to check out just yet. All his hard work wasn't just for the paycheck. He had to set up everything for the Bennett family and the Bennett Corporation, laying the groundwork for young Mateo.

Mateo was still just a kid, and Everett needed to clear the path for him before he was gone. By the time Mateo hit eighteen, he wanted him to be ready to take the reins of the Bennett Corporation without a hitch.

The whole reason he pushed Selena to leave with the kids was to keep them safe. Once he was gone, Mateo and Haley would be in the crosshairs. And it wasn't just the rest of the Bennett clan he had to worry about; even his own mother, Carolina, wouldn't leave them alone-especially Mateo, the eldest.

The only way to protect them was to keep them out of sight and mind. If he acted like he didn't care, his mother might not focus on Mateo or try to separate Selena from her children.

Just then, the door swung open and in walked Alex, looking a bit off.

Everett cracked open an eye and looked at her. "What's up?"

Alex didn't answer right away. Instead, she asked, "Mr. Everett, how's the check- up? How's your heart?"

"Cut to the chase. What's really going on?"

Alex hesitated, her brow furrowing, and Everett caught a chill in the air, sensing trouble.

"Is it Selena? Is something wrong?"

"Yeah," Alex replied, lowering her head, avoiding his eyes. She pulled out his phone from her bag and handed it over.

"Ava called several times while you were getting checked out. It seemed urgent, so took the call. She said Mrs. Everett went out shopping and suddenly vanished. They haven't tracked her down yet... Mr. Everett, what are you doing?"

Alex gasped as Everett yanked out the IV needle without a second thought, ignoring the blood that trickled out. He pressed on the spot and started changing clothes.

"Get the helicopter ready, now. I'm heading to Northtown," he commanded, his voice steady and determined.

"But your health-" Alex began, watching the blood seep from his hand, quickly grabbing a cotton swab to stop it.

"I said get it ready!" he snapped, his voice cold and unyielding.

Alex swallowed hard, too frightened to say anything more. With shaky hands, she picked up the phone and made the necessary calls.

Before getting on the plane, Everett was pale and unsteady, barely able to stand. Alex held him up, trying one last me to persuade him, "Mr. Everett, you've already got people in Northtown looking for her. They're on it. You don't need to go

"Hand me the meds."

"Taking too many isn't good for you!"

"Just give them to me!"

With a resigned sigh, Alex handed over the bottle. Everett poured a handful of pills into his palm and swallowed them, feeling a bit steadier afterward. Then he boarded the plane.noveldrama

Meanwhile, Selena found herself

trapped in some pitch-black place, her hands and feet bound, tape over her mouth, unable to move. She had no clue where she was or where she was being taken. The darkness and the uncertainty fueled her fear, her heart racing.

But she couldn't give up. She had two little ones waiting for her to come home.
