Chapter 705
Mateo was feeling a bit down in the dumps. He missed his dad a lot. He longed for those days when his father would hoist him up high, teach him all sorts of things, and just hang out with him. His dad seemed to know everything, and Mateo looked up to him so much. But now, his dad seemed so far away.
Everett glanced up, his eyes briefly passing over Ava, who was standing there holding a little girl, and landed directly on Selena. She was a beautiful, slender woman, not much different from what he remembered, except the deep emotions he once felt for her were gone. He looked at her like she was a stranger. Even the vivid memories in his mind, where he saw himself, felt like watching a dull movie about someone else's life. He couldn't connect or relate.
Everett looked at Selena, his lips barely moving, "We need to talk." Selena's hands tightened a bit, but she kept her calm smile. "Alright, come on in." She turned and led him inside, though the minute she turned away, the smile fell from her face.
Selena took Everett to a cozy sitting room. Knowing the conversation was likely to be tough, she told Ava to take the kids outside to play, keeping them away from earshot. With the sliding door shut, Selena sat down gracefully and began preparing a pot of coffee instead of tea. Everett stood by the big window, taking in the view. For a moment, they were both absorbed in their own thoughts, not saying a word.
As the rich aroma of coffee wafted through the air, Everett slowly turned around. The sunlight playfully danced through Selena's hair, making her look even more stunning. It was hard to believe she was a mom of two. He thought to himself that his past attraction to her made sense; she definitely had the looks, and she seemed to be just his type.
Everett walked over and sat across from Selena, his dark eyes locked onto her, boldly taking her in. It was the way a man looks at a woman-boldly, but with only desire, without a hint of love. Selena pushed down the heaviness in her chest and asked, "Would you like some coffee?"
Everett's lips turned up slightly, "Sure." Selena poured him a cup and slid it over to him. Everett took a sip, appreciating the taste. Selena couldn't help but study his face; his eyes were the same, his nose and mouth unchanged. Her gaze dropped to his chest. It was as if a different heart had changed everything.noveldrama
After finishing his coffee, Everett placed the cup down with a soft thud, signaling the end of their brief moment of calm. He got straight to the point, "I'm here to talk about the custody of the kids." No small talk, just straight to business: "We have two kids, each of us will take one. I want the boy."
Even though Selena had braced herself for this, it still hit hard. She locked eyes with his deep, shadowed gaze, "You've been back without a word to me, and this is the first thing you want to talk about?" It was like she had asked something ridiculous, and Everett just smirked. He leaned back in his chair, his long fingers tapping the table, his eyes cold and unflinching. Instead of an answer, he threw back, "What else? Or did you think I came back to rekindle old flames?"
What do you think?
