Not Your Doormat Anymore

Chapter 28

Just then, the doorbell rang. I got up to answer it, asking Kourtney, "Did you order something?"

But when I opened the door, it was not a delivery-it was Casey.

My expression darkened slightly. "What are you doing here?"

She looked nothing like the glamorous woman she once was. Her dress was from last season-the one I bought her-and she seemed worn out. Still, she forced a smile when she saw me.

"Our family's financial troubles have been resolved," she said. "We no longer need your family's investment."

"Oh? And?"

What did that have to do with me? Even if the Newton family had lucked out and made it through, there was no reason for her to come here and tell me.

I remained expressionless, but Casey quickly stepped forward.

I frowned and blocked the doorway. "If that's all you came to say, then get lost."

"Are you still mad at me? I know what I did before was wrong. I'm sorry. Can you forgive me? Let's start over. I really mean it this time-I truly love you.'

"

Gone was the aloof, proud woman I once knew. She lowered her head, trying to act pitiful, as if that would soften my heart.

"I didn't order anything... Maybe it's a wrong delivery?"

At that moment, Kourtney came out of the kitchen, holding a spatula, but her

voice trailed off when she saw us standing at the door.

Casey spotted her, too, and her expression changed instantly.

"It's you? I knew it! You're the one who came between us! Did you two get together? Is that why you dumped me, Jace?" Casey lost it and glared at Kourtney with hatred. Did your parents never teach you about shame? What kind of woman

becomes a homewrecker"

"Enough!" I cut her off sharply.

She flinched and nearly stumbled backward. "You left me because you fell for someone else, didn't you? It wasn't even about Andrew..."

From the harsh way she spoke about Andrew, it sounded like they had finally found their "true love" in each other.

My expression turned cold. "Just because you're shameless doesn't mean everyone else is. Whatever is happening between me and her happened after we broke up. You have no right to interfere."

Casey clutched her chest as tears streamed down her face. "But I love you! Everything I've done, I did it because I love you. That's why I kept coming back."

If this had been in the past, I would not have been able to bear seeing her shed a single tear. But now? I felt calm.

"As you can see, I have a new life now. Please stop disturbing me." With that, I shut the door in her face.

Then, I turned to Kourtney. "I'll install a smart lock tomorrow. If she shows up again, don't answer the door. Just call security and have her removed."

Kourtney had been standing awkwardly in the living room, but after hearing that, she finally relaxed a little, nodding cautiously. "Are you sure that's okay?"

She had heard from the other nurses that I used to have a long-time fiancée, someone I deeply loved, and that we were about to get married. Even though the wedding never happened, she still assumed had lingering feelings for Casey.

"It's fine," I said, nodding.noveldrama

Kourtney looked like she wanted to say something, but before she could, I beat her to it.

"She was only with me for my

money, and she used it to support her first love. She claimed it was love.

'true love. She even slept with him on our wedding day, but I caught them. After that, she told me she

just made a 'small mistake then begged me to forgive her and still marry her. I said no."

Kourtney's eyes widened in disbelief as I finished. "How... How could someone

like that even exist?"
