Chapter 216 You're Tricking Me
After the bidding event concluded, Eric and I walked side by side toward the exit. When we stepped outside, Jeremiah suddenly appeared in front of us, his face twisted in fury.
He growled. "Jane, you tricked me!"
I raised an eyebrow and met his fiery gaze. "How did I trick you?"
Jeremiah immediately scoffed. "Didn't you say their intention was real estate?
Why did it end up being an entertainment facility?"
Hearing that, Eric turned to look at me, clearly surprised. I deliberately ignored his questioning gaze and stared at Jeremiah coldly. "When did I say that?"
Jeremiah instinctively responded, "Didn't you..."
Seeing the knowing look on my face, he immediately fell silent, realizing he had misspoken.
I turned to the hurriedly approaching Elsa, smiling as I asked, "Where did you hear that information from? Don't tell me someone gave you some inside news?"
As I spoke, Jeremiah's face turned darker. He realized this whole situation was orchestrated by me. But now, with no evidence to back him up, he had to suffer in silence. Elsa stepped forward and, at a hidden angle where no one could see, shot me a sharp glare.
She supported Jeremiah, her face full of concern. "Jeremiah..."
In the next moment, he shook her off. Elsa's expression flickered with confusion
as her voice trembled. She sounded deeply hurt.
She stammered, "J-Jeremiah, it wasn't me... I didn't..."
I smiled faintly, enjoying the drama unfolding in front of me. Jeremiah knew full well Elsa hadn't lied to him. But at this moment, there was no one left for him to blame but her.
Suddenly, he looked up at me and sneered, "Jane, how come I didn't notice how clever you were before?"
With that, he turned to Eric and coldly snorted. "Being with a woman who's too smart never ends well."
Eric didn't care at all. He pulled me close into his arms. "A wife's intelligence is a husband's glory."
Seeing this, Jeremiah sneered and stormed off. Elsa, watching his retreating figure, instinctively started to follow him. The next moment, she bit her lip and froze in place.
I raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you going to chase after your Jeremiah?"
Her face immediately flushed with anger and embarrassment. "What are you talking about, Jane? Jeremiah and I—"
I waved my hand, uninterested in her sanctimonious words. "Save that fornoveldrama
someone who might actually believe you."
With that, I grabbed Eric's arm and left.
In the car, Eric kept looking at me with a curious gaze.
I was getting uncomfortable under his gaze, so I touched my face and couldn't
help asking, "Is there something on my face?"
Eric smiled lightly. "It's just that I feel like I don't really know you as well as I thought."
I raised an eyebrow, signaling him to continue. I had a smile of anticipation on my face.
He instantly understood and continued, "You're a designer, and you're outstanding at it. Now, I've discovered that you also have such forward-thinking ideas and can perfectly gauge the direction things are headed."
His tone was filled with admiration. "You're truly someone meant to shine brightly."
I graciously accepted his compliment, a wave of warmth filling my heart. Aside from my parents, this was the first time I had received such praise from someone else. Looking up, I met Eric's deep, affectionate gaze.
I blinked and flashed an exaggerated grin. "Don't worry. There'll be more surprises like this coming your way."
What do you think?
