Revenge is best served cold

Chapter 235 I'll Always Be With You

Just as Jack and I were speaking, Elsa suddenly appeared, looking as innocent as ever. "Jack, Jane, are you two arguing?"

I rolled my eyes. This act of hers was so nauseating that it almost made me want to throw up yesterday's meal.

"We're not arguing," I said, forcing a fake smile. "I was simply scolding your dear brother."

Elsa's expression instantly shifted to one of distress as she looked at Jack with concern. "Jack, what's going on?"

I let out a cold laugh. "You mean to tell me you don't know?"

Jack's face twisted with anguish. He looked at Elsa hesitantly, then said in a testing tone, "Elsa... everything you asked me to do... Was it really for my sake? Was it really for the good of the Brown Group?"

Elsa flinched. Her gaze darted toward me in a brief panic before she quickly grabbed Jack's sleeve, forcing a smile. "Jack, Jane is still here..."

I spread my hands in amusement. "So what? Aren't we family?"

I deliberately emphasized the word "family".

The color drained from Elsa's face. Her eyes welled up with tears as she glanced between me and Jack.

In the end, she settled her gaze on him, her expression full of hurt. "Jack... is that really what you think of me? All I've ever wanted was the best for you. How could you doubt me?"

As soon as the words left her mouth, she cast one last sorrowful glance at us, then covered her mouth and ran away.

Jack panicked instantly and ran after her. "Elsa!"

I watched the two figures disappear down the hallway and let out a long sigh.

It looked like everything I just said was for nothing.

...

However, what I didn't expect was for Jack to show up at my and Eric's villa that very night. After seeing his cold, impassive expression on the doorbell monitor, I had no intention of opening the door.

Eric glanced at the screen and raised an eyebrow. "What's he doing here?"

I shook my head. "No idea. But it's probably nothing good."

I had barely been home for long when I received a message from Jack, telling me

to go back. Since he didn't give a reason, I didn't bother replying. And that was

why he ended up chasing me all the way here.

Just as I was thinking about it, my phone rang. It was Jack.

I hesitated for a moment before answering. "What?"

His usually cold voice carried a rare trace of urgency. "Come back with me."

I raised an eyebrow and let out a scoff. "And why would I? So I can go back and get scolded again?"

For a brief moment, there was silence on the other end. Then, Jack spoke again. "Come back and apologize to Elsa. She got so worked up because of you that she fainted. She just woke up, but now, she has locked herself in her room and won't come out no matter how much we call out to her."

I curled my lips in disinterest. "And what does that have to do with me? Are you sure she passed out because of me and not because of your own doubts about her?"

The silence on the other end grew even longer.

Just when I thought he was about to give up, he suddenly spoke again. "If you hadn't slandered her, I never would have doubted her in the first place. At the end

of the day, this is your fault. You need to come back and see her."

I thought for a moment, then gave a light nod. "Fine."

After hanging up, I turned to see Eric watching me with a puzzled expression. He clearly did not understand why I had suddenly agreed.

I smiled and explained, "If I refuse, they'll probably drag my parents into this mess. There's no need for that. Besides, I want to see what kind of game she's playing this time."noveldrama

With that, I headed to my room to change out of my pajamas. When I came out, Eric was already standing by the door, fully dressed. He was looking at me with gentle eyes.

Upon noticing my confusion, he carefully wrapped a scarf around my neck. Then, he said softly, "Since I'm here, there's no way I'm letting you go back alone. No matter what happens, I'll always be with you."
