Chapter 394
When Evelyn heard Charles suggest getting back together, she couldn't help but let out a scornful chuckle. "Really?"
With a mocking edge in her voice, she shot back, "Charles, how do you even have the nerve to say something like that?"
"Get back together with you? Did all the men in the world vanish? Why would I want to be with the monster who defended and enabled the person responsible for Charlie's death?"
Every word Evelyn spoke was soaked in bitter hatred.
Some grudges fade with time, but her resentment towards Charles and Dahlia only intensified with each passing day. Until she avenged Charlie, she couldn't let go of this burning hatred.
Charles eased his grip, meeting Evelyn's gaze, which was full of loathing. He thought about how she had teamed up with Wesley to go after Dahlia, pushing Dahlia to the brink of suicide...
Instead of getting angry, Charles softened his voice, trying to reason with her. "Eve, I know you're still holding onto Charlie's death. You believe Dahlia caused it, and you want her to pay the ultimate price."
"But Eve, can we be rational here? Dahlia messed up, but she doesn't deserve to die."
"She's already lost the use of her legs and now injured a hand..."
"So what?" Evelyn cut him off with a cold laugh.
When he suggested Dahlia didn't deserve to die, she felt an urge to lash out at him again. Why hadn't she finished him off two years ago?
"Charles, what are you trying to say? Are you telling me that Charlie is just dead, but poor Dahlia has lost her legs and a hand, so she's suffered enough? Is what she's lost worth more than Charlie's life?"
"Eve, you know that's not what I mean. Can't you see I'm trying to look out for you?"noveldrama
Charles's tone grew more serious.
He was worried about Dahlia, but his main concern was Evelyn. Eve loved Charlie
so deeply that it clouded her judgment and deepened her obsession.
He didn't know how to help Evelyn let go of the past. If she kept this up, Dahlia might be okay this time, but what about the next? If something happened because of her, had she thought about how she could ruin her own life too? swnovel
"Can't you stop being so stubborn? Let me be there for you and try to move on,
okay? You have to realize, not every time will you come out unscathed."
Evelyn got what Charles was saying.
He was talking about how she pushed Dahlia off a hill two years ago, causing her disability, but Dahlia had let it go. Two years later, she had bought off Wesley, driving Dahlia to attempt suicide, and Dahlia let it go again.

"Charles!!! Evelyn's lips trembled with anger. She wanted to scream that it was Dahlia who threatened to desecrate Charlie's ashes, driving her to push Dahlia in a fit of rage. swnovel
But looking at Charles, recalling his words, Evelyn felt a deep sense of helplessness.
How could Charlie have a father like this?!
Evelyn parted her lips but ultimately said nothing. She knew deep down it wouldn't make a difference. Charlie's ashes were still safe.
Charles wouldn't believe her; he'd just think she was grabbing another chance to falsely accuse Dahlia.
Evelyn clenched her hands tightly before slowly releasing them.
With a cold tone, she said, "Are you done talking? If so, get out!"
Evelyn's attitude made Charles's expression darken.
"Evelyn, how can you be so unreasonable? Have you ever thought that if Charlie could see how her mother has become so extreme because of her, she'd be heartbroken?"
"Charles, if Charlie could see, the only thing she'd be heartbroken about is having a father as blind and foolish, unable to tell right from wrong, as you!"
What do you think?
