Chapter 205
Matthew had to put his mission aside and rushed to Wealthwave Group. Upon reaching the door, Matthew could tell something was wrong. The security guards at the entrance were new faces. Thankfully, someone had a word with the security, and they let Matthew in.
Walking into the office, Matthew noticed that the mood felt a bit different from before. The workplace was dead silent, and everyone was absorbed in their tasks.
With a hint of confusion, Matthew headed to the top floor. He pushed open the door leading to the president's office and saw Rachel rubbing her temple.
He asked in disbelief, "With so many herbs missing, do we seriously have no clues at all?"
Rachel shook her head. "I can't find anything. Ethan Durbin, the general manager of Ozenia Charity, is missing. Have you come across him?"
Matthew nodded. "He's dead."
Rachel was taken aback. "How do you know he's dead? Are you serious?"
Matthew was the killer. How could there be any doubt about it? But he couldn't tell her the truth. And he was also amazed by how Ansel managed to keep the incident under wraps.
There were more than ten witnesses to Ethan's death, but somehow the news never got out.
After clearing his throat, Matthew told Rachel, "Ethan died in a car accident. I saw it when I passed by."
Upon hearing that, Rachel fixed her gaze on her coffee cup, and she was lost in thought.
After a while, Rachel sighed in resignation. "Since Ethan is dead, there's no point looking into the matter through him. The only suspect we have left is Sheldon, but we can't do anything to him." Matthew was on the same page with Rachel's guess. The Smith family had been stirring up trouble recently. Even after Jeffrey was dead, Sheldon continued to give the Carter family a hard time. Matthew had a hunch that the Smiths were after something. He usually stayed out of Wealthwave Group's business, but the issue would affect the company's production for another year. So, he had to step in. "I'm off to confront the Smith family to get the herbs back."
With a look of surprise, Rachel gazed at Matthew. "Calm down. Have you forgotten about what happened?
"Sheldon suspected you were behind Jeffrey's death. Tracy had to talk him down to keep you safe. If you go after him, aren't you just looking for trouble?"
Matthew scratched his head. He was surprised that Rachel still remembered the past. Even though he wanted to clear things up, he didn't know how to explain the story.
After thinking for a moment, Matthew said, "You're my partner. I'll do whatever it takes to get those herbs back to you. Forget about Sheldon, even William can't stand in my way."
Upon finishing his sentence, Matthew turned around to leave. When she saw this, Rachel immediately stopped Matthew.
"It's not the time to be a hero. Going after Sheldon is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. He's rumored to be a martial artist. You're no match for him."
Rachel was hoping Matthew would come up with a great solution, but he was just being impulsive and making things harder.
Seeing Rachel blocking his path, Matthew said in resignation, "I didn't know you cared this much. I always thought I didn't matter to you. Since you're worried, I promise I won't go."
How come Matthew agreed so readily? Rachel stared at Matthew with doubt, but his beaming smile made her clench her teeth in frustration.
She was stressing out, but he was goofing around and making fun of her. Annoyed, she snapped, "Alright. Go take a break. You're not helping and just making things worse."
As Rachel spoke, she pushed Matthew from his back out of the office. Then, she slammed the door shut.novelbin
Looking at the door closing, Matthew could tell Rachel was feeling anxious. Since he had gotten to know her, she hardly ever lost her temper. She always carried herself in a cold, graceful demeanor. Matthew decided to deal with this matter himself.
The traffic was bustling on the road. Matthew waited by the roadside for ten minutes and didn't spot a single cab.
Just as he was running out of patience, his phone rang. He took out his phone and checked it.
