Chapter 812
Tony frowned in deep thought, mulling over Matthew's words. It didn't take long before he figured it out. "Nonsense. How is that healing the mind? You're just out for revenge."
Matthew nodded. "You're right. I'm out for payback. Why should I turn the other cheek?"
Tony pursed his lips. It looked like he wanted to say something, but then he bit his tongue and sighed after a few seconds. "I guess I might just be getting old, so I don't quite see eye-to-eye with you. But I have to admit that it feels quite satisfying.
"You have no idea. Back then, when Clive was getting treatment for his son, he had just rented that shop and borrowed money for renovations. He couldn't afford to pay for his son's medical bills, so he got kicked out after a week. In the end, he came to me for treatment.
"Back then, I told him to get his son treated first and pay me when he could afford it. He was incredibly grateful back then. I never thought that once he got rich and I fell on hard times, he'd look down on me."
Matthew didn't think too much about Tony's complaint, but he had a deep respect for Tony's commitment to treating patients first and settling the payment later.
That was what a true doctor used to be someone with compassion and skill. Standing next to Tony, Matthew was just a regular person with some medical skills.
"Let's drop the subject. It only gets me worked up. Let's eat first."
Tony nodded and glanced at the pasta place. The name was Pasta Pockets-the name just screamed affordable.
The place was packed with people. The customers were mostly men, with construction helmets on the table. Some were even wearing delivery uniforms.
Each person grabbed a piece of garlic bread, taking a bite of it as they slurped their pasta. Just watching them made Tony's mouth water.
But he scrunched up his face more. With his pockets empty, he could barely afford a meal for himself, let alone treat Matthew.
Seeing Tony standing still, Matthew was puzzled. "Why aren't you going in?"
Tony cleared his throat and stammered, "It's just pasta. Doesn't that feel too simple? How about I treat you to something nicer?"
Matthew shrugged. "Either way is fine with me. If you're looking for a fancy place, there's a lobster shack across the street. Do you see their big screen? They're advertising lobster as their specialty on the screen."
Tony looked across the street. Seeing the blue lobster going for hundreds of dollars, he shook his head non-stop. "I can't eat lobster. It's too heavy for me. I'm getting older, and my stomach is sensitive, so I can't handle it. Let's just stick with pasta."noveldrama
With that, Tony headed straight to Pasta Pockets.
Upon seeing this, Matthew quickly followed. Inside the pasta restaurant, it was crowded and a bit chaotic. Some slurped their pasta, some were glued to their phones as they ate, and some were having beers.
For some reason, the commotion blended in perfectly with the TV hanging on the wall. The place was buzzing.
Out of nowhere, Matthew felt a wave of nostalgia. Back in college, when the cafeteria food was pricey, he'd go for pasta in the nearby towns. It felt just like this.
Matthew and Tony sat at the back, facing two men in their 60s. They enjoyed their pasta as they chatted.
Matthew got up and poured two cups of water, sliding one in front of Tony.
Tony looked distracted with his eyes darting around. With no cash on him, how was he going to pay for the pasta?
He wanted to find a patient so that he could use his skills to earn enough for two plates of pasta.
He looked back to days when patients were constantly coming in. Some even brought local goods to show their gratitude. He was respected and lived a good life.
Without his medical license, Tony had hit rock bottom, and it left a bitter taste in his mouth. After scanning around, he eventually locked eyes with the two people in front of him.
What do you think?
