The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback

Chapter 1308

Chapter 1308:

Nature, in its cruel irony, had crafted a perfect morning.

Laney sat motionless, lost in the fog of heartache, before summoning the strength to rise on unsteady legs. Seeking clarity in cold water, she made her way to the bathroom, only to have her attention caught by an unfamiliar document on the table.

A flicker of curiosity pierced through her numbness, wondering if this was among Cliff’s final offerings from the night before.

The racetrack’s logo emblazoned on the envelope sent a jolt of confusion through Laney as she carefully opened it.

Inside was a racing inspection report, its contents heavy with implications.

The stark black text revealed a chilling truth—Merrick’s original car malfunction had been no accident. Someone had deliberately sabotaged his brakes, ensuring catastrophe on the track.

The report slipped from Laney’s trembling fingers, hitting the floor with the weight of its revelation. In that moment of shock, the doorbell’s sudden chime shattered the morning stillness.

Without hesitation, Laney rushed to answer, her heart thundering against her ribs.

It was Kailyn who rang the doorbell.

Laney froze at the sight of her friend, her heart skipping a beat.

“Oh my God!” Kailyn gasped, her eyes widening with concern.

“What happened to your eyes? They’re so swollen!”

Laney’s composure crumbled like autumn leaves. For a moment, she tried to hold back, but her lips trembled traitorously before tears cascaded down her cheeks once more.

Without hesitation, Kailyn rushed to Laney’s side, wrapping a protective arm around her as she guided her to the sofa. Through broken sobs, Laney revealed that she and Cliff had ended things the night before.

“Broken up?” Disbelief painted Kailyn’s features.

“But you two were just fine! How did everything fall apart so quickly?”

Sprawled on the sofa, Laney felt her tears had finally run dry, leaving behind a hollow ache that seemed to seep into her very bones.

“I suppose some things aren’t meant to last,” she whispered.

Laney explained how Cliff had come over yesterday to discuss an incident, but instead of having a rational conversation, he’d turned it into a heated argument.

“Even if we resolve this particular issue, there will be countless others down the line. Am I expected to always be the one who yields?” Laney’s voice came out as fragile as spun glass.

“So, you’re truly done with him?” Kailyn probed gently.

Laney managed a stiff nod.

“His temper… I’d rather steel my heart now than face a future of walking on eggshells.”noveldrama

Kailyn’s eyes softened with understanding.

“That doesn’t sound convincing. I saw the disappointment in your eyes when you opened the door to find me instead of him.”
