Chapter 284 Climbing the Mountain for Rescue
"My ankle's twisted!" Hazel hadn't gone far before she hobbled back and plopped down on a long outdoor bench.
As the others set off one by one, she massaged her foot and said, "I'm off to a bad start. My foot's done. I give up. You guys go ahead. I'm out of the competition."
Some women couldn't stand her delicate demeanor and gossiped as they walked.
"Look at her. Mr. Windsor said everyone had to participate, and Hazel showed up but pulled this stunt. It's disgusting."
"I heard she has connections. She was parachuted into Skyline International Corporation."
There were quite a few people on the way up the mountain, but as everyone followed different routes on the map, the crowd gradually dispersed.
Sophie walked while looking at the map, eager to complete the task quickly. She walked fast, even if the marked route wasn't the normal path. Through woods and thorns, nothing stopped her.
She didn't realize she was getting farther and farther from the others.
As she walked, the weather suddenly changed, and thick clouds quickly gathered.
It looked like it was going to rain.
Sophie saw that she had covered more than half the distance on the map and was getting closer to the target, so she quickened her pace.
After walking for about two or three hours, she finally reached the marked endpoint on the map. She looked for a wooden box but couldn't find it after searching for a long time.
The clouds grew heavier, and the temperature dropped noticeably. She became anxious, rummaging through the grass and thorns with her hands, getting scratched and several thorns stuck in her flesh.
She was in a hurry because Abby was waiting for her to pick her up.
But she searched all around the endpoint and found nothing.
The rain came suddenly, and she didn't bother to take cover. She continued to search
in the rain, growing more and more disappointed.
Thinking of Abby waiting pitifully in the classroom, her heart ached terribly.
The rain got heavier, and she decided to give up the task and go back to accept the punishment.
But she had walked too far, following the map all the way, and couldn't remember the route.
When she took out the map again, she found it was soaked and unreadable.
She wandered like a headless chicken for a long time, realizing she was still circling the mountain. The paths became more unfamiliar, definitely not the way she came.
She'd heard before that Cloud Lake Valley Scenic Area was mysterious, with paths like a maze-easy to climb up but hard to get down. Many outdoor enthusiasts loved exploring here.
Skyline International Corporation had booked the entire Cloud Lake Valley Scenic Area for this training, so there were no other visitors during this period.
Sophie hid under a big tree, trying to look at the map again, but it was already a soggy mess. Her phone was also water-damaged and couldn't make calls.
The rain got heavier, and she squatted down helplessly, hugging her soaked self, crying in despair as she looked at the pouring rain.
It was getting dark, and no one was there to pick up Abby. What should she do?
For Abby's sake, she couldn't give up, so she tried again to find a way down the mountain.
Darkness quickly swallowed the forest. Her shoes, heavy with water, made her steps clumsy, but she walked quickly through the mud. She accidentally stepped on a stone, slipped, and fell, twisting her ankle.
Sitting in the mud, Sophie was utterly desperate.
So many people came for the training. Would anyone notice she was missing? Would anyone come looking for her? What about Abby?
When the rain finally lessened, it had been dark for a long time.
Sophie sat on the ground, hugging her soaked self, shivering with cold.
Hearing footsteps mixed with the sound of rain, she thought she was hallucinating, staring numbly into the dark forest.
A beam of light pierced through the fine rain, moving slowly. Behind the light was someone holding an umbrella.
Sophie sluggishly raised her head. Seeing who it was, her frozen blood suddenly came alive.
He stopped in front of her, holding an umbrella over both of them, finally shielding her from the rain.
In her excitement, Sophie hugged his legs and cried loudly. "Richard, you finally came."
After letting her cry for a while, Richard pulled her up with one hand, glaring at her angrily. "Are you stupid?"
He was very fierce, but Sophie felt a hint of concern in his anger that he couldn't suppress.
So her tears flowed even more uncontrollably.
Because her ankle was twisted, she couldn't stand when Richard loosened his grip a bit, so he quickly held her up again.
Richard asked, "What happened to you?"
Her muddy clothes clung heavily to her body. She clutched Richard's arm tightly, choking up, "I twisted my ankle, Richard. What about Abby? No one is there to pick her up. Will she cry? My phone is broken, and the teacher can't reach me. What should I do?"Richard replied, "Abby's fine. You need to take care of yourself first."
Richard tossed the umbrella aside, turned around, and carried her on his back.
He said Abby was fine, and she finally felt relieved.
This was the first time Richard had carried her, and it was when she was in such a sorry state.

She was filthy, with mud all over her pants, but he didn't mind.
He came to find her. She hadn't expected that in her moment of utter despair, in the pouring rain, the one to come for her would be Richard, who had never cared about her before.
She remembered the first time she sat on the back of his motorcycle; it was also Richard who had saved her from the clutches of her boss.
That day, she felt equally aggrieved, hugging him tightly, thinking his back was the warmest place in the world.
Richard carried her step by step down the mountain.
Sophie leaned against his back, barely having the strength to speak, her voice pitifully
small. "Richard, this path is like a maze. Can we get out?"
Richard snorted, "Do you think I'm as dumb as you?"noveldrama
Though his words were harsh, Sophie found them incredibly comforting.
She had gotten used to his way of speaking.
This was him, the one and only him.
She didn't know how long they walked. The rain lessened and then stopped. He kept
walking, but Sophie's head grew heavier, and her consciousness faded.
When they reached the foot of the mountain, many people came to meet them.
Everyone was secretly astonished.
Richard had actually climbed the mountain in the rain to find a female employee and personally carried her down.
"Mr. Windsor, you've worked hard. Put her down."
"Yes, Mr. Windsor, your clothes are all wet. Go change quickly, so you don't catch a cold."
Richard ignored them, carrying Sophie straight to his private scenic villa. It was far from the others, surrounded by clouds and mist, the best place to stay in the entire scenic area.
After Richard carried Sophie away, everyone started gossiping.
"What's going on? Mr. Windsor actually took Sophie to his place?" "Could Mr. Windsor have feelings for Sophie?"
"How is that possible? Mr. Windsor couldn't have such poor taste."
Roger couldn't stand their chatter and retorted, "Is Sophie really as bad as you say?"

Hazel, who had claimed to have twisted her ankle earlier, now elegantly walked over in high heels, holding a wine glass. "You all are really impatient. What did you see that made you so surprised? Mr. Windsor was just showing care for his subordinates."Hearing this, the women felt a bit better, comforting themselves, "Exactly, this shows Mr. Windsor is approachable and responsible for every employee. He's a good man with a sense of duty."
Hazel took a sip of her wine, her brightly painted lips curling into a cold smile.
Holding her wine glass in one hand, she unlocked her phone with the other and quickly sent a message.
Lacey had been anxiously waiting in Richard's scenic villa. Seeing Richard carrying Sophie back, she immediately stood up to greet them. "Richard, you should take a hot shower and change your clothes. Leave Sophie to me."
Sophie still had some consciousness. She didn't want to trouble Lacey and wanted to
say she could wash herself, but her limbs wouldn't obey.
Lacey sighed, "Don't be stubborn. Let me help you."
After Lacey helped Sophie wash and change, Richard had already changed his clothes.
He strode over, picked Sophie up, and placed her on the bed.
Lacey noticed that he was very gentle when putting Sophie down and even took out a hairdryer to dry her hair, feeling quite gratified.
Richard had finally come to his senses, no longer the reckless and clumsy person who didn't understand gentleness and care.
Sophie knew it was Richard drying her hair. This rare warmth she couldn't fully
appreciate because her eyelids were too heavy, and she soon fell asleep.
After drying her hair, Lacey noticed Sophie's face was unusually flushed. She touched
her forehead and said worriedly, "She's got a fever."
Lacey turned to the assistant and told him to find a doctor.
The assistant was about to leave when Richard stopped him. "No need, I'll get the
doctor."
He took out his phone and made a call. "Jason, I'm at Cloud Lake Valley Scenic Area.
Sophie has a high fever. Can you come over?"
Lacey didn't expect him to call Jason.
After hanging up, Richard glanced at Lacey, indicating it was intentional.
Although Jason was no longer a practicing doctor, he had trained countless doctors,
and his medical skills were beyond doubt.
Since returning to the country, she hadn't seen Jason.
Even though it had been a long time since they parted, the thought of seeing him
soon made her a bit nervous.
While waiting, she found some diluted alcohol to wipe Sophie's body.
She couldn't let Sophie's fever get worse, and she needed to do something to ease her
anxiety.
About an hour later, Jason arrived.
