Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 703

For the first time, Carolina realized just how much her son had grown. He was so tall now, and somewhere along the way, she had gotten older too.noveldrama

Ever since Everett's accident a year ago, when he nearly lost his life, her outlook had shifted dramatically. The anger she harbored towards her unfaithful husband, and Everett's bond with William, his half-brother, had unfairly clouded her judgment towards Everett himself. She distanced herself, barely paid him any attention, and withheld the motherly love he deserved.

But when he was teetering on the edge between life and death, her heart ached like never before, consumed by pain and fear. That was when it hit her-how wrong she had been. How could she not love the child she had carried for nine months and brought into this world with such effort?

Seeing him safe and sound now, she couldn't help but pull him into a tight embrace, tears brimming in her eyes. Yet before she could express any heartfelt apologies, Everett detached himself from her coldly.

He looked down at her, his eyes dark and void of warmth, his voice equally distant. "Mom, this isn't us. We've never been close, remember?"

Carolina was taken aback. She stared at Everett, her lips quivering, words stuck in her throat.

"I just came to pay respects to Grandpa. I'll be on my way soon."

With a brief nod, Everett turned and made his way towards the chapel. Carolina remained frozen, unable to wrap her head around what had just happened.

Ms. Lewis, the secretary who had witnessed everything, was just as shocked. "Madam, what's going on with Everett? It's like he's reverted to that emotionless young man from ten years ago."

Her words snapped Carolina back to reality. She looked in the direction Everett had gone, realizing that he indeed seemed like the distant young man he used to be-cool and detached from everyone and everything.

It had been his six-year marriage to Selena that softened him, bringing warmth and love into his life. Ms. Lewis was clearly worried, but Carolina gave a slight smile. "This is actually good."

"Good?" Ms. Lewis was perplexed. "Madam, how can it be good if he's so distant, even with you?"

"It's definitely a good thing," Carolina replied, settling back into her chair. She picked up her teacup, blew gently on the floating tea leaves, and took a sip. "For the sake of what peoplecall love, he nearly lost his life. That's just foolishness in my book. Now that he's like this, I don't have to worry about him doing something reckless again."

Over the past year, if it weren't for Selena giving the Bennett family two kids, Carolina wouldn't have let her off easily While she may have been neglectful of Everett, that didn't mean she'd allow outsiders to harm

He was, after all, her only son.

After a pause, Carolina added, "Now that Everett's back and well, he needs

someone who truly gets him."

Ms. Lewis quickly caught the drift. "Are you planning to set him up on dates again?"

"No, I've already got someone in mind," Carolina replied.

Ms. Lewis hesitated, "You mean... Ms. Joy?"

Carolina didn't answer directly but continued sipping her tea with a knowing smile.

Ms. Lewis understood. Over the past

year, Joy had been a constant

presence, sharing heartfelt conversations with Carolina and helping her through the tough times as they both missed Everett.

Especially when Carolina wint

in the

hospital, Joy had been there almost daily, looking after her with care. Carolina, who once wasn't fond of Joy, now saw her almost as a daughter. It seemed she was thinking of her as a future daughter-in-law too!

A week later, Everett had fully reorganized the internal workings of Bennett Corporation, flushing out those who had stirred trouble over the past year and kicking them out of the company. Finally, he had some breathing room.

Standing before the massive floor-to-ceiling window, Everett gazed out at the glittering lights of Newport. He finished the last sip of his coffee, then picked up his phone and dialed Selena's number.
