Unforgettable love

Chapter 96

Chapter 96:

Dolores stole a glance at Dolores standing by the window before continuing, “We have a common enemy.”

“…”

Abbott found that more interesting. He crouched down and leaned toward Terry, “Describe it in detail.”

Matthew, who was stroking Dolores’ hand as if it were a toy, was still ducking his head. However, when he heard that Terry and Dolores had a common enemy, his eyelashes quivered slightly.

Matthew stroked the back of Dolores’ hand back and forth.

This matter was neither simple nor sophisticated. However, it was difficult to make it clear in a few sentences.

Terry pondered for a while, “Let me start at the beginning. When I met Miss Flores, I was trying to get a customer for my cab. When she saw me, she acted shocked as if she knew me, but I didn’t really know her…”

Terry recounted how he came to know Dolores: “My older brother died six years ago. When he was alive, he was bribed by someone with money and deliberately ran over a person with his truck and then passed it off as a car accident…” He looked at Dolores before continuing, “Miss Flores was the victim of the accident. Luckily, she did not die. The cab driver died, and she was seriously injured.”

Dolores curled her fingers slightly and her palms became sweaty as Terry’s words brought back memories of her painful experience.

At that moment, some debris was inserted into her caudal vertebra and would compress her nerves if she did not have surgery, which would paralyze her and therefore she would not be able to walk in the future. However, if she had the operation, she would have to receive the anesthesia.

But then she was pregnant and the anesthesia would affect the unborn babies.

She wanted to keep the babies, but she also didn’t want to be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

Besides, she couldn’t afford to be paralyzed. Otherwise, who would take care of the children when they were born?

Who would take care of their mother when she was older?

So she could not be paralyzed.

Nor could she abort the children. At first she was reluctant to give up the baby and was even more so when she learned that she was actually pregnant with a set of twins.

They had been her blood at the time she became pregnant.

As long as she was alive, she would make sure they were alive.

She would never give them up.

Therefore, in the end, she could only opt for an operation without anesthesia.

When she remembered the pain of her flesh being cut, she still trembled as if she was experiencing the sharp pain all over again.

At that moment, she wished so much that she could faint under the great pain. But as a woman pregnant with babies, she could not faint and had to remain sober; otherwise, she would harm the babies.

When a woman gave birth by cesarean section and opted for anesthesia, it only narcotized a part of her body and her mind remained clear.

That’s why she had to keep her mind clear.

She didn’t want to recall the bad memories and wanted so badly to forget them. However, that pain was ingrained in her memories and could not be erased.

As soon as someone mentioned it, she would remember it clearly.

Just like now, even though six years had passed, the sharp pain was still surging in her mind like turbulent tides.

Suddenly, she clenched her fists.noveldrama

Obviously, Matthew had noticed her abnormal reaction. She lifted her head and realized that the strands of hair around her ears were drenched with her sweats, caused by fear and nervousness.

It was as if fear was enveloping her as she was trapped in some horrible memories.

He reached out to clasp her in his arms and cupped her back with his broad hand, “Don’t be afraid.”

Dolores closed her eyes and rested her head on his chest.

His breathing and his burly chest seemed to have the power to comfort her and Dolores slowly calmed down.

It was the first time Dolores had exposed her weakness to Matthew.

Seeming to think of something, Matthew hugged Dolores tighter and rested his lips on her head.

“We have a common enemy because the one who killed my older brother was actually the one who had bribed my brother to take down Miss Flores. Today we have reached a partnership agreement, so naturally we are partners. Miss Flores and I have only met three times. The reason we met this time was that she needed to buy a car. Since she has just returned to the country and is not familiar with the conditions, she asked me to be her guide. This is the case.”

Abbott touched his nose and shot Matthew a look.

But Matthew was comforting Dolores at the time and didn’t even return a glance.

He secretly heaved a sigh of relief and asked, “Do you know who the suspect is?”

Terry nodded sincerely, “Yes. The suspect is a woman from the Herbert Family, which is a powerful family. And it’s not so easy for us to reverse the verdict.”

The Herbert Family?

Abbott licked his lips, “It’s the Herbert Family that controls the Pioneer Corporation?”

Terry nodded, “Maria Herbert.”

Terry almost figured out who the perpetrator was when Dolores said it was a member of the Herbert Family.

The Herbert Family had two sons and the family’s missing daughter was found several years ago and the news caused a sensation at the time.

The room was suddenly enveloped by silence and only the faint sounds of breathing could be heard.

Terry glanced at Abbott and asked quietly, “Why did you hit me?”

Abbott was speechless.

All right, he was the culprit himself. He wanted to laugh at Matthew and sent him the photo without making an inquiry about it; otherwise, Terry would not have been hit.

By the way, was this Terry Holmes a fool?

Why hadn’t he realized it was because Matthew felt jealous?

He couldn’t bear to see Dolores too close to another man.

Terry seemed to understand something from Abbott’s expressions.

But he felt very aggrieved. He had just guided Dolores to choose a car, yet he was hit for no reason.

Feeling aggrieved, he muttered, “Can rich people bully others willingly?” Although Matthew seemed to be idle as if it was none of his business, he could clearly hear every word Terry uttered.

Maria Herbert.

“How do you want me to make it up to you?” Matthew asked matter-of-factly.

He wasn’t being arbitrary. It was just that he didn’t like another man being too close to Dolores.

When Dolores discovered that she was unknowingly snuggled in Matthew’s arms, she blushed slightly and hurried to leave his embrace.

She pretended to be clam and glanced at her wristwatch, “It’s late already. I have to get back.”

Terry also stood up and said, “How about compensating me with money?”.

After all, he was the one who had been hit, and it was reasonable for him to ask for compensation.

Besides, Matthew was not short of money.

He couldn’t be beaten without any compensation, could he?

Matthew put his arm around Dolores’ shoulders and said, “I’ll take you home.”

As Dolores was about to decline, Matthew hugged her shoulders tighter,

“I’ve lent you my chest. What is this, you’re going to leave me like this?”.

Dolores realized that she had never defeated him in any respect. She let out a sigh and let it be.

As they passed Terry, Matthew said in a warning tone although he wasn’t looking at Terry, “She’s my wife. Distance yourself from her. As for how much compensation you want, just tell Abbott.”

After finishing the words, he left beside Dolores with his arm around her shoulders.

As the two sat in the car, Matthew leaned over to help Dolores buckle her seat belt.

Dolores looked at him and asked, “You don’t think you’ve influenced my life?”

“I don’t think so.” He replied in a righteous tone. Apparently, he didn’t think he had done anything wrong.

“I’m not your private property. I have my own social circle. It’s not good to do that.” Dolores didn’t want similar things to happen again.

“We’re a couple. Aren’t you my private property?”

“We are not a couple.”

“We have marriage certificates.”

“…” Dolores was suddenly speechless.

She didn’t go through the motions of getting divorce certificates back in the day, and this was now becoming his excuse for influencing her life.

“It’s a simple matter. You just have to ask Abbott to take care of it. And we can get the divorce certificate…”

Before she could finish her words, Matthew suddenly grabbed the back of her neck and kissed her on the lips in an overbearing manner….
