Chapter 89
Chapter 89:.
Seeing Matthew, Mary almost rushed over, stretching her arms out to embrace him.
Matthew pulled away and dodged. Because he was running so fast, Mary couldn’t stop even after missing the target. She couldn’t help but lurch forward, her ankle twisting.
“Ouch…” she exclaimed. Her legs faltered, falling to the ground.
Abbott stepped back. He had a chance to hold her up, but he didn’t help her.
Before she became a member of the Herbert Family, she sometimes even complimented Abbott. After all, he was a man Matthew trusted very much, so she was willing to put a little effort into Abbott.
However, ever since she returned to the Herbert Family and became their daughter, she was arrogant and put herself out there whenever she met Abbott.
Hence, Abbott was quite unhappy. He no longer liked her as he used to.
Now Maria was a girl from a rich family.
Abbott was just an assistant. So they were not of the same world.
Maria fell to the floor, her knees skinned and her carefully combed hair in disarray.

She looked rather embarrassed.
Lifting her head, she looked at Matthew. “Matthew…” She could not accept his coldness and contempt.
He used to treat her with affection.
His present attitude gave her a feeling of frustration, as if she had fallen from heaven to hell.
She could not accept it at all.
Trembling, she looked at the man in front of her. “Matthew…”
Tears welled up in her. Her tone was full of complaint and ingratiation.
Matthew walked over to her and squatted down. He reached up to push aside the messy hair that covered her cheeks.
Looking at her face closely, Matthew seemed to see her true color through her features.
“Matthew…”
“Stop calling me,” Matthew interrupted.
Mary was startled, still unable to accept the fact.
“How many things have you kept from me?” she asked in a very low voice, as if she was repressing something in her heart.
Things flashed through Mary’s mind, as if all the scenes of a movie were being replayed.
She was thinking about the hidden meaning of Matthew’s question.
Suddenly, her pupils contracted sharply. He seemed to have overheard her conversation with Dolores.
“Nothing,” she denied.
“Nothing?” scoffed Matthew.
She had saved him once, so he trusted her. Even though he had already found her ruses, he didn’t investigate them. He wasn’t out to get back at her.
After all, he cherished their relationship.
However, she was always refreshing his perception of herself.
She would deceive him with self-actualized and self-directed scripts. It was even she who planned the car accident that happened to Dolores back then.
He had underestimated Maria in the past. He had thought she was using some little tricks. To his surprise, it turned out that she was just as vicious.
“I didn’t… I didn’t set Dolores Flores up. She, she made it up.” Maria’s face was wet with tears. Reaching out, she wanted to grab Matthew’s arm.
“Matthew, you have to believe me.”
He stared at her face for a few seconds, his cold lips forming a straight line. Wordlessly, he opened his hand to her.
Mary was unwilling to let go, but Matthew’s strength was too strong. Unable to resist, her hand was easily pulled away.
“Matthew.” Mary wrapped her arms around his legs. “I really didn’t. Believe me. If I was wrong, it was because I love you so much. Is it wrong to love you?”
“Heh, heh.”
Matthew scoffed, as if mocking himself. He whispered softly in reply, “You’re not wrong. I was wrong. It’s my fault.” He shouldn’t have mistaken responsibility for love.
“No. It’s not.” Maria shook her head desperately. “It’s not your fault or mine. It’s all her fault.”
Turning, she pointed to Dolores, who was standing on the steps. “It’s all her fault. She’s just a bitch.”
“Bitch…”
Theresa was about to respond but was stopped by Dolores. It was unnecessary to get to a verbal fight with Maria.
Dolores knew that what Maria feared most was losing Matthew.
In return, she should stick her finger in Maria’s sore spot, which was Matthew.
In her high heels, Dolores descended the steps, walking toward Matthews one step at a time. Reaching up, she tucked her hair behind one ear, eyes seductive. Then she put her hand on Matthew’s shoulder, calling to him in a soft, gentle tone, “Honey.”
Dolores was disgusted. She really couldn’t get used to this way of addressing him.
Anyway, her divorce certificate was not issued, so she could still address him this way.
Her main goal was to make Maria angry.noveldrama
Mary’s face flushed with anger, looking like a well-cooked shrimp.
Matthew glanced lightly at Dolores’ arm over his shoulder. She was slender and fair-skinned. She was so close to him that he could even clearly see her arm hair.
For the first time, Dolores took the initiative to approach him.
And called out to him in such an intimate way.
He couldn’t help but feel delighted.
He didn’t mind Dolores calling him that way.
He knew she had done it on purpose, but he didn’t push her away.
He merely let her lean against him.
“Stop fawning over him!” Maria was totally irritated that Dolores was calling him ‘honey’.
She got up from the floor and shook her fists, aiming to punch Dolores.
“Bitch! Don’t touch Matthew.”
Just before her fist landed, Matthew grabbed her wrist.
Meeting his gaze, Maria was surprised by the coldness in his eyes.
She had never seen such coldness in Matthew’s eyes.
“I…”
“Abbott.” Matthew took his hand away from her.
Abbott understood. He took a step forward and pushed her away.
How could Maria be willing to let Abbott push her away while she saw Dolores and Matthew being so intimate?
“Abbott, let go of me!” Maria didn’t care about anything else. All she wanted was to escape Abbott’s grip and push Dolores away.
She definitely wouldn’t let Dolores touch Matthew.
Matthew belonged only to her.
She would not allow anyone else to touch him.
“Miss Herbert, watch your dignity, please.” Abbott frowned.
“Abbott Baron, who do you think you are, how dare you meddle in my affairs?” she snarled.
Matthew was in no mood to tangle with her. He merely ordered Abbott in a light tone, “I’ll leave it to you.” Then he took Dolores away.
“Matthew…” Seeing Matthew leave, Mary went into a complete panic.
She started punching and kicking Abbott. “Get off me. Now! Get off me!”
Still gripping her tightly, Abbott held still. “Miss Herbert, please calm down. Mr. Nelson has already called off the engagement with you…”
“You know nothing of the love between Matthew and me. Even though our engagement has been called off, he still loves me.” Abbott found her to be quite funny.
She said Matthew loved her.
Even though he was a stranger, Abbott still couldn’t say that Matthew had never loved her all these years.
All Matthew had for her was the responsibility of that night and gratitude for saving her life in its infancy.
Love?
Bullshit.
“You’re a psycho.”
“You’re the lunatic. You’re a dog, a barking watchdog raised by Matthew.”
Abbott’s face fell. He sneered. “That’s right, I’m not as noble as you, the daughter of the Herbert Family!”
Abbott extremely emphasized his identity.
He could not understand why a person could change his personality due to the change of his identity.
She now realized that she was supposed to be such a person originally. She had only hidden her true color in the past.
Now she exposed her nature.
This proved the old saying … “a leopard can’t change its spots”. Seeing Matthew put Dolores into the car, Abbott let go of Maria.
He gave her a cold look.
“Mr. Nelson will never like a woman like you.”
Maria was so furious that she couldn’t help but tremble. Seeing Abbott leave, she rushed toward him and bit his hand.
Abbott groaned from the pain.
He was in a lot of pain.
Lifting his foot, he kicked the madwoman away. “You’re a biting dog,” he said disdainfully.
Checking the back of his hand which was nearly bitten to the point of bleeding, Abbott spat at the woman who fell to the ground from his kick.
Then he turned and walked away.
Lying face down on the floor, Maria clenched her hands into fists. She swore she would get revenge for all the humiliation she had received today.
“Let go of me.” Being pushed away, Dolores panicked. She just wanted to provoke Mary on purpose at this point.
Matthew didn’t respond and continued to force her into the car.
Dolores continued to struggle.
Matthew grabbed her hands restlessly. “Shut up.”
Dolores squirmed, trying to free herself from his grip. “Where are you taking me?”
